My Thoughts on Two Cleansers That May Already Be Gone: Holika Holika Prime Youth Black Snail vs Dior Capture Totale Review

In this post, I’ll be reviewing two cleansers that are hard to find, if not quietly discontinued. I rotate skincare (and makeup) products a lot, so things tend to last me longer than they should, lol. While neither product may be easy to get anymore, I’d still like to share my thoughts on them, especially since one is affordable and the other is luxury. Is the luxury facial cleanser worth it? Let’s find out.

Holika Holika Prime Youth Black Snail Cleansing Foam

Holika Holika Prime Youth Black Snail Cleansing Foam

The Holika Holika Prime Youth Black Snail Cleansing Foam claims to even out skin tone, address signs of aging, rejuvinate the skin, and smooth skin texture. It comes in a 100 ml tube.

I like that it smells nice, which complements that refreshed feeling whenever I use it, and it doesn’t dry out my skin. However, I don’t find that it thoroughly removes makeup residue. It has a mousse-like consistency.

Among its claims, I’d like to believe it does have anti-aging properties, though I do use other skincare products that also claim anti-aging benefits and contain ingredients that help brighten and plump the skin, so it’s hard to attribute results to this cleanser alone.

I had some expectations from this cleanser, given that it’s a Korean beauty product and Holika Holika is quite a well-known brand. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?), it turned out to be just an okay product. If it were more hydrating and cleansed more thoroughly, I might have been more inclined to recommend it, if it were still easy to find. 😄

Notable ingredients include Myristic Acid and Stearic Acid, both of which are comedogenic and therefore not ideal for those with oily or acne-prone skin. Meanwhile, those with dry skin may benefit from its moisturizing agents: Glycerin (a natural humectant also found in our skin), Propylene Glycol, and Butylene Glycol.

I’ve only seen the Holika Holika Prime Youth Black Snail Cleansing Foam in Holika Holika UK’s website. I haven’t come across it on Shopee or Lazada, nor on Holika Holika’s US website. It may only be available in certain countries, as I got mine from South Korea.

Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Cleanser

The Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Cleanser impurities and cleanses the skin, leaving it free from excess sebum, makeup, and sunscreen residue. It also claims to hydrate the skin for up to 6 hours.

Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Cleanser

I cannot find further details about this cleanser from official sources (i.e., Dior’s website), but it appears that this product contains the following key ingredients:

The Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Cleanser (released 2022) has since been replaced by the Dior Capture Totale High-Performance Gentle Cleanser, basing it on the Dior website. The latter appears lighter in formulation, though like its predecessor, it’s not ideal for sensitive skin due to fragrance.

Review

As someone who enjoys Dior makeup and skincare, this may come across as biased, but I genuinely do love this cleanser. I find that it thoroughly removes sunscreen and makeup residue without leaving my skin feeling stripped or dry. I’ve also noticed that it helps brighten my complexion. The cleanser has a creamy consistency and lathers well, even when using only a small amount of product.

I also love, love, love the scent of the Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Cleanser. The tube packaging with its twist-cap dispenser is another detail I enjoy, although it did take some getting used to since it’s easy to accidentally dispense too much product.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend luxury facial cleansers, especially since there are already many excellent and more affordable options available. Still, the luxurious scent combined with that truly clean feeling afterwards makes this such a joy to use. ☺️ It goes without saying that, for me personally, this is worth it. If it were more affordable, I’d probably stock up on it.
